want-to-boros list

February 2nd, 2010 signither

just updated my wishlist page. one of the things that i’m surely will buy in this few months is a laptop for work. still undecided either to get a cheap netbook or spend lots of moolah for an MBP. was interested with vaio P, but i think that it is kinda overrated. lol.

all the other things in the list can wait, except ones listed under the sub-heading “photography”. as you can see from the list, i wish to get a dedicated macro lens, a backup flash (for my backup body), a beltpack and a few filters. to tell you the truth, i can sense the beltpack and filters coming pretty soon.

why just a macro lens? not a G or a Z? well, moolah is one of the main factors. but then, i’m just a hobbyist, not a pro. i shoot for my own pleasure, just for fun. i don’t shoot any events or any paid job (yet?). and most importantly, i don’t even know how to handle my gears properly.

right now, i’m still trying to improve my skills. by doing so, i believe i really need a macro lens so that i can complete my learning gears. other than that, i need to master wawa (uwa; 11-18mm), tasha (kit+tele; 18-250mm) and sofia (prime; 50mm). if and only if they can’t fulfill their purpose up to my requirement anymore, then i’ll have no choice except to upgrade them.

so, should i think of a name for my macro lens now?

No zombies (yet)?

So, the £5 billion LHC machine on the Swiss-French border was activated yesterday and it seems like the “Big Bang” experiment started very well. But..

The BBC understands that low-energy collisions could happen in the next few days. This will allow engineers to calibrate instruments, but will not produce data of scientific interest. (Source)

The switch-on saw the first stream of subatomic particles – known as Hadrons – circulating in the tunnel. The first collisions are expected in around 30 days. (Source)

This means that only the machine was being activated yesterday and the particle smashing experiment that recreate the conditions during the “Big Bang” will only take place in a few days up to a month time.

I am no expert in this field as I am fukken noob in physics, but when someone 1337 like Professor Otto Rossler voiced his concerns saying that black holes created by the LHC will grow uncontrollably and “eat the planet from the inside” (Source), I believe we should at least be prepared for any outcomes, from something small like an explosion up to something big like the black holes (or a portal zomg!).

Well, I think I need to find myself this zombie kit now:

[WantToBuy] Crowbar

..before Wednesday, 10/09/08.

Have you ever heard of Large Hadron Collider?

Sep 8 – Scientists involved in a historic “Big Bang” experiment to begin this week hope it will turn up many surprises about the universe and its origins — but reject suggestions it will bring the end of the world.

The world’s most powerful particle accelerator will be launched on Wednesday (September 10) at the European Organisation for Nuclear Research (CERN), based in Geneva. The Large Hadron Collider (LHC) is in an underground ring tunnel of 27 kilometres (17 miles) beneath the French-Swiss border. Scientists will recreate conditions just after what was known as “The Big Bang” by colliding two beams of particles at close to the speed of light in a bid to understand the origins of the universe. Critics say the $9 billion dollar project is a doomsday machine that could destroy the planet. They fear the experiment could generate black holes that could gobble up the earth - a theory CERN scientists reject.

Helen Long reports. (Source)

Well, if not a black hole, maybe it could open up a portal to another dimension.

ARE YOU PREPARED?
